Use this guide to understand wedding cake sizes, finished tier heights and approximate servings at Cedars Cakes.
Layers, Tiers & Dimensions
Layers are the sponge sections inside each cake. Tiers are separate cakes stacked together. For example, a three-tier cake can have two or three sponge layers inside each tier.
2 layers: approximately 5.5–6″ finished height per tier.
3 layers: approximately 8″ finished height per tier.
Height is measured from the cake board to the top of the finished tier, including filling and frosting. Tier size refers to the diameter measured across the cake. A 10″ + 8″ + 6″ cake has three separate tiers of those diameters.
